It is a fact that Gotland is a unique gem in the Baltic Sea with a world heritage that few other places can match. On the island, you can wander along the cobblestones of the medieval town, peek into the beautiful ruins, and take a few vacation photos with the famous ring wall as a backdrop. Whether you have a keen interest in history or not, there is plenty to experience at different levels. Gotland Museum – The Ancient Hall

Gotland Museum is the flagship when it comes to Gotland's historical treasures. The museum was founded in 1875 by the Gotland Antiquarian Society, with Pehr Arvid Säve as its initiator. ​
Gotland Museum comprises several parts, including the Antiquities Hall, Gotland Art Museum, and Visby Ruins.

For several years, feverish work has been underway to adapt the exhibitions to appeal to the whole family. A visit will be exciting and interesting for young and old alike. Gotland Museum regularly arranges activities such as stand walks and ghost hunts. In addition, various events are organized, such as guided tours and special exhibitions.

Fenomenalen Science Center – a family-friendly museum in Visby

The Phenomenal

Fenomenalen is the obvious choice for families who want to explore and experiment with different phenomena together in a playful way. Fenomenalen is open Monday to Friday from 10:00 to 17:00 and on weekends from 11:00 to 16:00, with extended opening hours during the summer season. Fenomenalen is a science center that primarily works with interactive exhibitions focusing on science and technology. A great activity if the weather is bad. You will find Fenomenalen at Visby harbor, and it is wise to buy tickets online.

Bergman Center

It is probably no surprise that Ingmar Bergman's contribution to the Swedish film industry is indisputable. The Bergman Center is a place where you can learn about his life through text, images, and moving images. You can also get to know the few people who were close to him and learn about the process from idea to film. During the summer, the Bergman Week festival is held. Visitors can enjoy films, creative discussions, theater, music, and lectures.

Visitors explore the Lummelunda Cave on Gotland

Lummelunda Cave

Lummelunda Cave is actually one of Sweden's longest caves, with an explored length of 4.5 km. The cave adventure is very popular and attracts many visitors. We understand why. The cave is suitable for both the die-hard explorer and the novice visitor who wants a little excitement. Guided tours can be booked daily between May and September. By the way, it's not particularly warm in a cave, so a sweater and jacket are highly recommended.

Villa Villekulla

One of Sweden's and the world's most popular houses can be found here at Kneippbyn. Villa Villekulla is the original house from SVT's films about Pippi Longstocking and is included as an attraction at Kneippbyn's Summerland. Come and see how Pippi lives, sneak up the stairs to Astrid Lindgren's writing room and, if you dare, enter Pippi's haunted attic among pirates and sea robbers...

The Gotland Train on Gotland with historic railcars

The Gotland Train

The Gotland Train is a living railway museum where visitors can experience historic trains and stations. The trains are beautifully decorated and reminiscent of a bygone era, with stations that recreate environments from the heyday of the railway. From Hesselby station in Dalhem and Roma station in Roma, it is possible to ride on steam trains during the summer and experience the Gotland surroundings. In addition, you can rent a handcar, which is similar to a larger model of a pedal bike, on days when train traffic is at a standstill. In August, the museum offers special events and extended opening hours to celebrate the end of summer.

Bläse Lime Museum

Bläse Lime Works

Bläse Kalkbruk is, as the name suggests, a lime works museum. This is always a topical subject on Gotland. During the high season, in addition to visiting the exhibition, you can also hop on the classic stone train to the old lime works.
With its barren landscape, the experience along the stone beach is almost magical when the sun is at its best. In Bläse, there is also a bistro for those who are hungry or want a snack.

Stavgard

Stavgard is a reconstructed Viking farmstead with a wonderful mystique. The buildings date from the 4th to the 10th centuries and give visitors an authentic picture of the Viking Age. The site offers a range of activities for families to get involved in, with the aim of learning more about Viking life and culture. For children on Gotland, Stavgard has long been a popular destination for excursions. Various events and activities are organized for visitors here, both during the winter and summer seasons.
