Chronicle – Welcome to our anniversary

We are very proud to announce that we will be celebrating an anniversary in 2026. Fifty years have passed since Lars-Gunnar Werkelin acquired Kneippbyn and took his family on a life-changing journey. He saw something special in this unique location on the cliff edge just south of Visby. It was seemingly undeveloped at the time, but there were a few buildings, a camping area, and the famous house: Villa Villekulla.

The site has been maintained and developed over time, and he certainly did not know back then, on that day just 50 years ago, that Kneippbyn would become one of Sweden's most popular family resorts.

But the courage, daring, and determination were there—as was a family ready to embark on a shared journey through life, where relationships, work, and a Summerland the property would become a seemingly chaotic everyday existence.

With Kneippbyn turning 50, we naturally want to come up with lots of fun things to do, set our sights on bringing joy to future generations, and set course for the second half of Werkelin's century at Kneippbyn. But we also want to tell our story. About how it all began, decisive events, juicy anecdotes, and challenges along the way.

Through articles, collages, and video interviews, we will give you the opportunity to relive wonderful memories or simply learn a little more about what actually happened.

Our focus will be on people. Family, friends, former colleagues, neighbors, you, or me.

Because if there is one thing that has always been the focus of the Werkelin family over the years, it is the people, the meeting between generations, and laying the foundation for all of our summer memories.
