Haven't traveled by ferry before and want to read a little more about what to expect? Of course, we have lots of useful information to share. Gotland is a short trip away, and the approximately 3-hour ferry ride builds up the mystique of the island, which was once a trading center for the Hanseatic cities.
Here is a selection of frequently asked questions with corresponding answers:
Get your boarding pass online
Three hours before the boat's departure time, a text message and email will be sent to the person who booked the trip. Follow the instructions, and when you are ready, you can download the boarding pass to your mobile phone or print it out. If you are traveling on foot, you will need this to enter the terminal. If there are several people on the same booking, you will receive one email per passenger, so you can easily forward the correct boarding pass to the right person.
Pick up your boarding pass at the terminal
If you choose not to download your boarding pass online, you can visit our check-in machines at the terminal. Enter your booking number on the screen and follow a few simple steps to get your boarding pass. You then show this at the entrance to the boats.
Entry
Boarding for ferries opens no later than 1 hour and 30 minutes before departure and closes 20 minutes before departure.
Access on foot
Once you have checked in via text message or email, as described above, simply scan your boarding pass at the entrance to reach the departure hall. Wait there until it is time to board.
If you are traveling with small children or have a stroller, we welcome you to our manual check-in desk, where we offer personal assistance with check-in.
Please note that the distance from the terminal entrances and exits to the ships is up to 500 meters.
Access by car
If you (and possibly your companions) are traveling by car, you can check in before arriving at the terminal or when you arrive at the check-in counter. When you check in, you will receive boarding passes that may be requested on board.
When checking in by car, all passengers in the car must show their boarding passes at the ticket control. All adults must be able to present valid identification.

Charge your electric car
In collaboration with Mer, we have charging stations for electric cars at both the terminals in Nynäshamn and Oskarshamn. The charging stations are located at the ferry terminal outside the vehicle passage to the ferry. Charging takes approx. 15-30 minutes and costs SEK 5/kWh. A charging card is required for charging.
More information is available onMer's website.
Baggage rules
If you are traveling without a vehicle, check in your luggage at the ferry terminal.
Maximum weight per piece of luggage is 25 kg. Checked luggage must be well packed in a bag or similar and labeled with your name and telephone number.
Only carry-on luggage may be brought into our passenger areas on board (this also applies to compartment seats). Maximum dimensions are 40x50x30 cm. We apply the rules for carry-on luggage for safety reasons.
If you are traveling with luggage containing items such as bottles of liquid, please take extra care when packing before checking in your luggage. Any damage to luggage caused by a broken bottle will not be compensated.
Thank you for following our baggage rules and helping us maintain safety!
Stroller on board
Strollers are permitted in passenger areas on board
Animals on board
Your pet may stay in your personal vehicle during the journey. You will be given the opportunity to check on your pet once during the journey. Always state at check-in if you are traveling with a dog/cat.
If you wish to bring your pet on the passenger deck, you need to book a pet space:
SF1650 – Lounge chair in the Animal Salon.
SF1500 – Reclining chair in the Animal Salon (part of the Front Salon).
The SF1650 and SF1500 also offer a number of animal compartments where dogs and cats are welcome.
Pets are not allowed in other lounges or compartments.

Turn off the car alarm during the trip
Car alarms can be activated by vibrations in the ship, and the alarm sound is extremely unpleasant for animals on the car deck. We kindly ask you to turn off your car alarm during the crossing. If you do not know how to turn off the alarm, please read the vehicle manual or google your car brand + turn off car alarm.
Destination Gotland is doing the following to help travelers turn off their car alarms during their journeys:
Three days before the trip, an email is sent out with a request to turn off the alarm during the trip.
During peak season, text messages are sent to motorists reminding them to turn off their alarms.
Horse transporters will be placed on deck 3 as far as possible.
Animal transport – horse on board
Transportation of horses in horse trailers on car decks is permitted on our SF1650 and SF1500 ferries.
Caravans/motorhomes on board
LPG may only be transported in vehicles that have been inspected and approved for this purpose. The main valve of the LPG system must be closed. The container must be easily accessible. The hatch to the container's storage space must be unlocked and marked. This applies throughout the entire crossing and within our terminal areas. In some cases, it may be necessary to dismantle TV antennas and similar equipment.
Bicycle/moped on board
Passengers traveling with a bicycle or class 2 moped should book it as a bicycle/moped.
Passengers traveling with a two-wheeled Class 1 moped (EU moped) should book it as a motorcycle, while a three- or four-wheeled Class 1 moped (EU moped) should be booked as a passenger car.
Bicycles and mopeds are directed to the vehicle entrance. When it is time to board, staff will give instructions on where bicycles/mopeds should be placed during the crossing.
Travelers with allergies
If you have allergies, please contact us for information about the environment on board, such as which seating option is best for you. There are allergy compartments on SF1500 and SF1650. It is not permitted to use perfume or eat nuts or peanuts in the allergy compartments. We recommend that our guests with severe hypersensitivity use these compartments, which can be booked via telephone booking.
The restaurant area always has lactose- and gluten-free options on the menu. Our staff in the restaurant area are happy to help and can recommend suitable options. We always have gluten-free bread and pastries.
Please note that unfortunately we can never guarantee an environment free from allergens.
